Leawood, Kan. – August 27, 2026: R. Scott Beeler recently achieved successful results, including more than $2.25 million in settlements and mediation awards, on behalf of four property owners who were displaced by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) when it acquired right-of-way from for the reconstruction of Interstate 70 in downtown Topeka.

Scott negotiated settlements for two property owners in advance of any condemnation action. Another case was settled in favor of Scott’s client after he filed multiple appeals seeking proper moving expenses for a company that had to uproot its entire business because of the construction.

The final case went to formal condemnation proceedings and contested court appointed appraiser hearings. After Scott appealed the initial property valuation, KDOT ultimately agreed to pay an additional $1 million following a one-day mediation.
