R. Scott Beeler and Brett Randol, Rouse Frets White Goss Attorneys, Secure Substantial Tax Reduction for National Home Improvement Retailer

Leawood, Kan. – May 12, 2025: R. Scott Beeler and Brett Randol, attorneys with Rouse Frets White Goss Gentile Rhodes, P.C., recently secured a substantial property tax reduction and refund on behalf of a national home improvement retailer in a matter pending before the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals (BOTA).

The firm’s client owns and operates multiple stores in Johnson County, Kansas, and appealed its property taxes for 2018 through 2024. Scott and Brett challenged the County’s appraised value, asserting the County’s valuation was significantly above fair market value for property tax purposes. Previous tax years were tried before BOTA for the client, which resulted in substantial tax refunds. Prior to the BOTA hearing, the County agreed to reduce the appraised value of more than $135 million for the client’s stores in Johnson County for the tax years currently at issue, resulting again, in a substantial tax refund due the client.
