Frederick (Fred) Starrett, an award-winning and experienced litigator, concluded his active legal practice in 2024 to pursue other endeavors. During a legal career that spanned five decades, Fred tried more than 50 jury trials and handled litigation throughout the Midwest. He also maintained an extensive appellate practice in the state and federal courts involving a broad range of issues. Fred handled cases involving copyright infringement, residential, commercial, and heavy construction, injuries, and professional and product liability.
Fred was a senior fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America™, an honorary society of experienced and highly qualified trial lawyers, and admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. Fred taught trial practice at Washburn School of Law, served on the faculty of the Kansas Bar Association Trial Tactics Institute and the Advanced Trial Advocacy Institute, and was a member of the Defense Research Institute, serving on its board of directors. His awards include the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel’s Kahrs Award for Lifetime Achievement, and Fred was also honored by Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers, and Martindale-Hubbell. Fred plans to be an active alumnus of the law firm and law firm welcomes his role in that regard.
