Kansas City, Mo. – October 28, 2026: Phillip (Chuck) Rouse, who leads the Payments and Prepaid Instruments Practice Group of Rouse Frets White, P.C., is the lead inventor on two patent pending technologies designed to introduce Compliant AI®, a technique that leverages technology to control the use of generative AI in automated legal and accounting rules engines. The designs force AI to comply with several ethics and legal restrictions regarding the use of AI while also allowing generative AI to be deployed in compliance rules engines used for regulatory compliance purposes, including legal and accounting rules engines.
The technology uses AI to make rules compliance engines intelligent while also corralling the negative and sometimes dangerous attributes of using AI in such settings, such as introducing guess, bias, inaccuracies or even hallucinations into the rules decision making. “It is called Compliant AI®,” Rouse said. “We believe it is a good technique to be considered for use in regulatory compliance rules engines that deploy AI to make the decisions underlying the compliance rules engines including legal rules engines.”
The two patent applications are entitled:
- “Methods And Systems For Creating Compliant Artificial Intelligence For Regulatory Rule Determination”; and
- “Methods And Systems For Creating Compliant Artificial Intelligence For Regulatory Rule Determination Applying Third Party Client Decision Making.”
These innovations join other inventions by Rouse in the regulatory compliance space for the payment industry and payment systems, including the patent pending “Virtual Cash Out Platform” that provides methods and systems for compliance with cash off statutes regulating gift cards, and the patented “Methods and Systems for Optimizing Escheat and Derecognizing Prepaid Cards, Stored Value Cards, Credit Memos, and Electronic Payment Instruments.”
